The lottery has been voted to start next season, but there's no reason that we can't do a live draft on the board if people want to.

Proposed: Starting at the conclusion of this discussion/vote we begin a live draft on the board. I propose that it be strictly voluntary, that is, if someone doesn't respond we don't skip them.

Thoughts?

Love the Idea of live draft.

All you guys with medium picks should love it more too. there won't be guys you don't list because "they can't possibly fall" who get taken as a sleeper 5 picks later.

If we start the live draft within a few days it would really make it easy. we do have a bit of time considering the fastest the play-offs can take is 16 days.

i'm down for alive draft.
but do any positions change depending on who advances and/or wins it all or are they set in stone due to how you did during the regular season?

Cool

I am not in favor of live draft simply because I do not think it can get done in the timeframe we have based on the time it took the initial draft. What do you do if the time for the draft in the system has passed and we are not finished?

Well maybe there's some problem here that I'm not seeing, but this is the way I look at it:

Scott doesn't want to have to manually place all the draftees, so whatever we do, eveyone is still going to have to fill out their draft selection(s) in game anyway. So, let's suppose we start a live draft and we get stalled out on pick 12. What does that mean? Nothing. Everyone who picked before 12 fills in their draft list to get the guys they picked on the board, and everyone after 12 fills in their list with their choices just as if we hadn't done the live draft at all.

There are some potential problems with this scenario. Suppose that I choose a guy with my 4th pick and then everyone posts about how much of an idiot I am, so I decide to change my pick on my real draft list in game. That could completely throw off the rest of the draft for everyone behind me. I both took a player someone else drafted, and let one fall that no one anticipated.

I think the way this ought to be handled is this:

[*]We consider this a practice run for when we do the lottery.[*]No one will be skipped if they don't make a draft selection this time. The live draft will just end if someone doesn't pick and everyone behind them will just fill out their draft lists like normal.[*]However, if you do make a pick in the live draft you are bound to it and if you pick another player instead, you will have to trade the player to the team who drafted him.[/list]If everyone agrees that the draft is binding, then the proper way to fill out your draft list is:
1. The guy you picked in the draft.
2-10. Players who were drafted ahead of your position.
This way if someone does make an error and chooses your guy, you will pick up the player he was supposed to take minimizing the number of trades needed to correct the problem.

First of all, Graffin, that's a freaky avatar.

Second. I like having a time limit, but how do we deal with someone who doesn't pick on time? With the initial draft we had to submit a list to Scott who put the players on the teams. In this draft if we skip someone they'll still be filling out their own draft list. If they disagree with being skipped they can still put whoever they want on their draft list and the game will put them on their team thus messing up everyone behind them. I just put the part about not having a time limit to avoid the hassle of dealing with these kind of problems.

Do you think that we'll be able to work everything out properly if we skip someone's spot in this draft?

If someone cannot agree and refuses to abide by the rules - even after they agreed to follow the processes outlined before joining - then they should not be allowed to continue in the league. That is a very simple way to solve the problem
